For the Vanilla Cake:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

For the Buttercream Frosting:

  • 1 ½ cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 6 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 2-4 tbsp heavy cream or milk

For Decoration:

  • Fresh flowers or berries
  • Edible gold leaf (optional)

Instructions

1. Prepare the Cakes: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans for easy removal.

For the Vanilla Cake:

Mix the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt in a big bowl. Add the buttermilk, eggs, vanilla extract, and softened butter. Use a medium speed of mixing to ensure thorough mixing. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans. When a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, bake for 25 to 30 minutes. After 10 minutes of cooling in the pans, move them to wire racks to finish cooling.

For the Chocolate Cake:

2. Make the Buttercream Frosting: While the cakes are cooling, prepare the frosting. In a large mixing basin, beat softened butter to a creamy texture. Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing well. Incorporate the vanilla extract and enough heavy cream or milk to reach your desired consistency. Beat until creamy and fluffy frosting is achieved.
